This week, Tourism Sarnia-Lambton’s theme was “outdoor activities.” Throughout the week, the summer students explored the county to find fun, diverse activities anyone can enjoy this summer! The goal was to explore opportunities that the students may not have participated in before and share them with those inside and outside Lambton County.

On Monday, the students headed out to Port Franks to spend the morning with Captain Pete of the Port Franks Fishing Charters. Captain Pete was both friendly and welcoming, and when the students boarded the boat to begin their fishing journey, he gave them a rundown on what to expect and all the safety information that was necessary to know. None of the students had been fishing on a boat before, but they got the hang of it easily. One by one, the walleyes kept biting, and the students kept reeling. In the end, the students had caught 14 fish! Captain Pete cleaned them, and the students were able to take their catches home for dinner. Captain Pete was an amazing guide, the waters were calm, and the fishing was so much fun – what more could the students ask for on a Monday morning?

On Wednesday morning, the students packed up some gear and visited the new Jays Care Field of Dreams at Lambton Centennial Public School. One of the students played softball more often, so she was able to teach the others some basic techniques to help them all get started. With only a few balls, a bat, and some gloves, the students had so much fun hitting and fielding softballs that morning. In the afternoon, the students decided to head to the Blackwell Park Pickleball Hub to play a mini-scrimmage of pickleball against each other. That afternoon was certainly filled with fun and laughter. The best part is that because the students already had gear for both activities, it was completely free to go out and play together!

On Thursday, the students decided to check out the Ride Current e-bikes that are located in various spots around Lambton County. They downloaded the Ride Current app to see where the bikes are, then drove out to Kenwick Park in Brights Grove to enjoy a nice bike ride by the water and within the surrounding neighbourhoods. It was the students’ first time on e-bikes, and after getting the hang of it, they had a blast! It was such a beautiful day to be out on a bike, and the Ride Current e-bikes make it possible for anyone to go for a ride even if they don’t own one.

On Friday, the students drove to Korny Korners Adventure Farm to check out all the fun activities. They started by looking at all of the animals, then headed to the zipline and the bouncy pillow. Even though the farm is advertised for kids, the summer students really enjoyed their time at Korny Korners. There truly is no age to stop having fun!

All in all, the “outdoor activities” week was incredibly eventful and entertaining. Sarnia-Lambton is filled with so many things to do for all age groups!
