Sarnia - Race to Erase Hunger |
Your participation in this event will help to raise thousands of dollars for people in Sarnia-Lambton. Race to Erase is a road rally (not running - you travel by car – don’t worry) fundraiser that involves teams of four competing in different challenges around Lambton County. Think Amazing Race tv show…with a local twist. The challenges range from wild obstacle courses to brain-twisting games which are presented by businesses and not-for-profits from our community (Riding a tricycle, hammering nails, dancing a jig, things like that). It’s easy to participate: Register. Get three friends together and raise $500. (That’s only $125 per person—only five friends ponying up $25 and you’re in.). Raise more and win some great prizes! The top individual fundraiser will win a vacation (VEGAS BABY) and the top fundraising team will be driven around in a limo for the day. The proceeds will benefit The Chris Dawson Foundation. I had the pleasure of working with Chris and getting to know him through various funct ions. So this year’s Race has a little extra meaning for me. This is a local private charitable family foundation, with a mandate to celebrate his legacy in three ways: develop and manage centres for not-for-profit organizations that offer a variety of shared services; participate in educational opportunities (sponsorships and scholarships); and support charitable events, which will further community development. Its first not-for-profit centre, called The Chris Dawson Centre, is located at 420 East Street North in Sarnia and boasts five tenants who share the Foundation’s vision of creating a shared-services, cost-saving centre. A 2,000 sq. ft. addition added in the summer of 2010 will provide a range of services and resources for all tenant partners. The proceeds from the Race will go towards the Foundation’s five-year goal to reduce base-rent by approximately 50%, saving tenant partners even more money, allowing them to focus more on helping the people they serve. |
