The Active 2010 Sports & Recreation EXPO & the "JUST TRY IT" events are a collaborative effort to increase public awareness about the importance of leading an active lifestyle by taking part in regular physical activity as well as showcasing our community to provincial and national sports & rec. associations. This year’s expo will take place on Friday, April 16, with extended hours from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. The Community Active Living Lambton Committee, in conjunction with Tourism Sarnia-Lambton, the City of Sarnia Community Services and many other local organizations are committed to developing programs for the citizens of Sarnia - Lambton that will begin to address this national epidemic of inactivity. Through the development of the Active 2010 Sports & Recreation EXPO & the "JUST TRY IT " events, we hope to inspire people to engage in regular fitness-related activities. Working together, we can create a healthier Community. For the EXPO, we will be using two hockey pads at the Clearwater Arena, as well as the two community rooms. The two ice pads will provide room for the not-for-profit and for-profit sports & recreation related associations/businesses to have display booths to promote their particular business, activity or service. Bussing will be provided to a large number of school children across Sarnia/Lambton. Also new this year, students will be given a schedule of 6, 15-minute demonstration stations that they will be asked to participate in. Every 15 minutes they will rotate to the next station. After they have completed the 6 stations, they will then visit the exhibitor area to gather more information before departing. Only those attendees who visit all the exhibitors will be able to participate in the daily. JUST TRY IT EVENTS: The EXPO will also stage ongoing interactive demonstrations throughout the day. Participants will be encouraged to try different activities or view demonstrations. Last year we hosted over 80 demonstrations such as Tai Chi, Boccia, Floorball, Cheerleading, Belly Dancing, Boxing, Basketball, Soccer, Unicycle, Aerobics, Martial Arts, at Home Fitness, Softball, Recess Games, Rugby, etc…This year, in the evening we are planning some exciting new events that will include special guests…Stay tuned for more information! |
