Strike it Rich
Real Black Gold

Come and visit the Petrolia Discovery, a 19th century Oil Field still producing the black gold of yesterday and today. This living museum allows visitors to walk in the steps of the oilmen who started a technological revolution. The only operating oil field open to the public in the world. Take a guided town tour of Petrolia and enjoy its Victorian splendour. Watch for the former Grand Trunk Railway Station with its two turrets that became home to the Public Library. Hear stories of yesteryear and see our beautiful Crescent Park where the houses of the original oil Barons still stand and the residents of our town call home. A leisurely lunch awaits you at one of our quaint tearooms. Make sure to leave room to sample some decadent desserts. After lunch take a little time to browse in some of the unique shops and boutiques along the main street, Petrolia Line. This afternoon we make our way to the Oil Museum of Canada. See how oil was discovered at this National Historic Site, the first commercial oil well in North America. Visitors will discover that oil is the basis for thousands of consumer products including gasoline, chewing gum, detergents, telephones, bubble bath and panty hose! *An optional two-hour dinner cruise can be added to the tour, applicable during May-October.
